Meryl’s Story. A Cat from Syros in London.
There are so many stories I have to share with you that I really don’t think they will all be written. Choosing the first Cat Story was tricky, as there are some powerful ones. Finally, the selection was made based on the principles we represent as we live together, and this is the cooperation of people to reach the desired goal. One such principle is that Superman is the multitude, and it is captured very well in Meryl’s story.
Meryl, a cat from Syros, appeared in Jessica’s yard. Jessica vacations every year in Syros, coming from England, since she has roots from Syros and a home on the island.
Jessica approached me at the clinic where I was working at the time and asked me how it would be possible for this Cat to come to England. The process is relatively simple. Examination that the animal is well, anti-rabies vaccination, passport, electronic identification and waiting 21 days to leave.
However, Jessica would leave England in a few days, while Meryl’s condition was not the best for travelling. A quiet, gentle animal that was loved at the moment and that love Jessica wanted to turn into the greatest gift. The adoption.
So, according to the data that existed and the will to travel the animal had to find a place to stay. This place was found very soon and it was the house of Frances, also a summer visitor to Syros. He generously offered to keep her until she left for her home in England as well.
So, Meryl was settled temporarily. The days passed and of course she got fatter, relaxed, and Frances sent us very nice pictures of her new life with her.
The next puzzle we had to solve was getting into England. It is very difficult to get an animal into England by air unless the person paying for it is prepared to pay hundreds of pounds to specialist companies that take it on. This is normal business that I don’t like at all, considering that for 40-60 euros, you board a cat on a plane to Germany or France.
Jessica was determined, so it was decided that Meryl would travel to Paris, and she would come with her husband by road to pick her up from England. He would then put her in by road, which is very simple.
Next step to find someone flying to Paris. Usually Facebook is very helpful in such announcements and after a few days Meryl traveled with a very beautiful family to Piraeus. yes, yes, yes.
Another volunteer picked her up from Piraeus and in a few days they traveled to Paris where the ‘final handover’ to Jessica took place.
Over the next few months, Jessica shared photos of Meryl’s life with them. Images of symbiosis, images that capture the greatness of adoption and the reason why many people dedicate a large part of their time to rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting a homeless animal.
Without a doubt, the image of the couple in the garden of their home with Meryl relaxing on the table is a top cohabitation image for us.
Without a doubt, this story captures in the best way what we believe and stand for at We Live Together.
P.S. Sorry, I miss the names of the people who helped move the animal. Thinking of you forever, thank you so much.
We set sail for Piraeus!
